Randalstown to Castledawson Dualling Scheme

Welcome to the Randalstown to Castledawson dualling scheme website. The road improvement, located on the North Western Corridor which links Belfast to Londonderry, will provide a dual carriageway from the M22 Motorway at Randalstown (238kb) ![]()
via the Toome Bypass (247kb) ![]()
and Castledawson Bypass (286kb) ![]()
to the Castledawson Roundabout. This improvement is part of a programme of Strategic Road Improvements being implemented by Northern Ireland Roads Service to remove bottlenecks on the key road network where lack of capacity is causing serious congestion, and to improve the environment by providing bypasses to some towns.
Current Status @ 18 August 2008: Roads Service is considering the Inspector’s reports and recommendations given in light of the objections and representations made at the November 2007 public inquiries for the Randalstown to Toome and Toome to Castledawson schemes. The Inspector has recommended that:
- The Randalstown to Toome scheme should proceed, subject to a review of the junction layout at Drumderg.
- The Toome to Castledawson scheme should proceed, subject to further consideration of the Annaghmore Road/Bellshill Road access to Castledawson and a review of the Castledawson Roundabout.
Roads Service and their consultants will re-examine the Drumderg junction, the Annaghmore Road/Bellshill Road access to Castledawson (438kb) ![]()
and the Castledawson Roundabout junction before reaching a decision on the way forward. It is anticipated that the Vesting Order for each scheme will become operative during the 2009 – 2010 financial year and that construction of the two schemes will start in 2011.
