The Regional Transportation Strategy (RTS)This link will open a new window.opens in a pdf file (5.0MB) for Northern Ireland 2002-2012 identifies strategic transportation investment priorities and considers potential funding sources and affordability of planned initiatives over the strategy period.

The RTS is a 'daughter document' of the Regional Development StrategyThis link will open a new window. (RDS) which sets out the spatial development framework for Northern Ireland up to 2025. The purpose of the RTS is to support the RDS and to make a significant contribution over the 10 years towards achieving the longer-term vision for transportation contained in the RDS:

'to have a modern, sustainable, safe transportation system which benefits society, and the environment and which actively contributes to social inclusion and every one's quality of life'.
